Chief editor of the "Velyki Ukrayintsi" (Greatest Ukrainians) project Vakhtang Kipiani told "Gazeta…", that for the moment on the first place of the film rating was his picture about Stepan Bandera. It is followed by the film about Nikolay Amosov. Throughout all the program 1.5 million people have voted. But the results are still kept strictly secret.
- We can talk except of the preliminary results of the project realization in Ukraine. And I’m satisfied how the BBC format was embodied in Ukraine. We managed to find several interesting sparks that weren’t present in the original project, - Kipiani is convinced.
The project finale is going to take place in the renewed studio. The discussion structure is also to be changed - experts will be replaced with the "lawers" (throughout the last weeks they presented the films about the persons who entered the top-ten) and those, who had direct relationship to the "Velyki…", - their relatives, friends and just acquainted. All in all around 100 people - by 10 “protectors” for each of the top-ten.
The editor of the BBC representative office in Kiev Svetlana Dorosh told "Gazeta", that "Velyki Ukrayintsi" project turned out to be almost the same as the Great Britons authors planned him to be. After all the program "returned" to us the forgotten names of a vast number of outstanding personalities that were persistently kept quiet about for decades. However, there were some defects in Ukrainian version that could affect the final voting results. For example the multi-voting possibility afforded politically engaged citizens to act so that the "necessary" figures appeared among the greatest. Another disadvantage the Ukrainian BBC service representative considers the choice of the "lawers" of the outstanding personalities in the documentary line that is not always adequate.
- I won’t give any names, - Svetlana Dorosh explains, - but it seems to me that the politicians towards whom people’s attitude is uneven were not to be invited as such representatives. After all it can influence the choice of people. The list of authorities that were to form the symbolical counsel of elder on the program caused the same perplexity. Editors and organizers of "Velyki Ukraintsi" should have looked for those who could replace the politicians that constantly appear in "Svoboda Savika Shustera" (Savik Shuster’s Freedom). However, I admit that some of the invited could just refuse to participate in the program.
But then again, as it is known, only the one that doesn’t do anything ever mistakes. Meanwhile, the creative group of the "Velyki Ukraintsi" project has at least tried to remind us that there still exist prophets in their native land. To know and to remember them is a characteristic feature of a mature native society.
